Repeate pattern︎︎︎
This series of patterns comes from textlies- a potential compositional device that can be applied to several other diciplines- movement, sound, deign, etc.
A repeat pattern is a design in which lines, shapes and forms or colours are repeated as a pattern extends. A single element that is repeated is called a motif. The same line that demarcates the repeat is called a jog line.
There are many types of patterns...
Full drop: repeat unit is created by stacking the original repeat block in a grid format.
Half drop: a repeat unit is stacked vertically in a column format which is then offset by half in the next vertical row, creating a diagonal orientation.
Diamond: patterns are stacked in a diamond shaped diagonal formation.
Random: patterns are scattered within the repeat unit which creates organic and nonlinear design.
